The futuristic KIA EV3 and EV4 interior design concepts that embrace sustainable innovation

In the ever-evolving arena of car design, finding ways to make cars more sustainable is at the forefront of innovation. From energy-efficient engines and zero-emission fuels, to now using alternative materials for the interior finishes, car makers are pushing boundaries in their efforts towards a greener future.

KIA just unveiled game-changing eco-friendly materials and methodologies used for the interiors of their Concept EV3 and EV4 vehicles. Innovative sustainable materials are used in both EV3 and EV4 to reduce environmental impact, provide design freedom and deliver unprecedented levels of color choice and trim finish.
The KIA CMF team took inspiration from air to use light and transparency throughout the cabin for the EV3. Natural fiber structures employed in the Concept EV3 deliver light, slim seat design with soft and modern aesthetics. 3D knit technology creates visually stunning 3D effect on the seat covers and delivers efficiency with minimal stitching. In addition, the console table features a material not manufactured, but grown – mycelium, derived from mushroom roots. Marília Biill, Head of CMF Design at KIA explains that mycelium provides excellent strength and soft surface. Bio fabrication is an important goal for Kia in ecological design development.

For the concept EV4 cabin design, the KIA CMF team drew inspiration from the element earth. Natural dyes like madder roots and walnut shells were used to create unique tones and hues. Handwoven fabric stripes are applied to storage area and dashboard for a 3D effect, similar to the 3D knit finish used in Concept EV3 seats. Besides hemp fibers were used to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the console table. Marília Biill explains that hemp is a rapidly growing plant requiring minimal resources. The material is sustainable, moldable, versatile and adds a rich colour to the EV concept's cabin.

KIA has a long history of integrating sustainable materials into its vehicles since the 2014 Soul EV, such as bioplastic and sugar cane bio fiber. Earlier this year, KIA further committed to minimising its environmental impact with the launch of the EV9 electric SUV with 10 must-have sustainable items for all new models.• These include bioplastic from biomass sources, Bio Polyurethane (PU) as a leather alternative, carpets made from 100% recycled PET and recycled fishing nets.

The KIA EV3 and EV4 concepts represent a revolutionary step forward in sustainable interior design. Combining sustainability and innovation, the new-concept models leverage creative solutions to deliver comfort and luxury without compromise. This is truly an exhilarating era for the advancement of alternative sustainable materials. The future holds immense possibilities for environmentally-friendly materials that will revolutionise the market.
