Non-stop round-the-world flight with the all-electric solar airship
The world's first non-stop round-the-world flight without fuel is about to take off. Bertrand Piccard, Dorine Bourneton and Michel Tognini are embarking on a historic expedition aboard the Solar Airship One – a 100% electric solar airship. With a departure planned during 2026, the team will travel from West to East, skirting the equator as they cover over 40.000 kilometers in just 20 days. Soaring at an average altitude of 6.000 meters, this incredible feat will redefine what is possible in air travel.
The Solar Airship One is developed by EURO AIRSHIP. After a decade of groundbreaking research, patenting cutting-edge technology, and collaborating with Capgemini Engineering, the EURO AIRSHIP team is finally set to begin construction. The “commercial airship of the future”, how EURO AIRSHIP is calling it, cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by a staggering 80%, but also achieves complete decarbonisation through the use of solar cells. This state-of-the-art airship boasts a reinforced double-layered envelope, ensuring stability in the face of external pressures and regulating internal temperature. With 15 separate gas envelopes managed by innovative software, maneuverability in various conditions is a breeze. Construction begins in 2024, with final assembly happening the next year. And by 2026, after obtaining experimental certification, Euro Airship aims to embark on a bold and pioneering journey with Bertrand Piccard, Dorine Bourneton and Michel Tognini. Get ready for a greener way to travel.
