Polestar and Candela's newest version of their collaboration – the Candela C-8 Polestar edition
Polestar and Candela have just announced the release of the Candela C-8 Polestar edition, a product of their joint venture to promote sustainable electric mobility. This special edition hydrofoil boat features unique design elements like a solid light grey colour, custom seat upholstery, and Swedish gold-coloured hydrofoils, which is iconic of Polestar's cars.
The two Swedish companies had previously formed an agreement for Polestar to supply batteries and charging technology for Candela's electric boats. The Candela C-8 Polestar edition takes Polestar's signature Scandinavian luxury approach and applies it to the marine industry. The exterior is painted in a uniform solid grey, and the interior areas are finished in an airy lighter grey. A single marine-certified textile is used throughout the boat for seats, cushions, sunbeds, walls, and roof panels.
As of 2023, all Candela C-8 boats have been equipped with a 69-kWh battery and the charging hardware from the standard-range Polestar 2, allowing them to reach up to 57 nautical miles on a single charge at a cruising speed of 22 knots. This is more efficient than traditional powerboats, and its high-speed range is two to three times longer than that offered by other electric speedboats.
Besides the Candela C-8 is powered by a 75 kW electric direct drive pod motor known as the Candela C-POD. The foils used to keep the boat afloat are deployed once it reaches a certain speed, helping it reduce energy consumption by up to 80% compared to conventional motorboats. The ride is quiet and comfortable because of the computer-stabilised foil technology.
Starting from June 2024, customers will be able to buy the Candela C-8 Polestar edition, which will be produced in Stockholm. Pricing begins at 400.000 EUR.
