The new Volvo XC40 Recharge – Volvo's first fully electric SUV
With the launch of the first fully electric car, Volvo is taking another important step in its electrification strategy and is setting a milestone on their way to an electric future. With the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the Swedish premium car manufacturer not only presents its first fully electric car, but also the model name "Recharge". In the future all vehicles that have a charging cable will be called "recharge". Volvo will start producing the SUV in autumn 2020.
In addition to the fully electric all-wheel drive, the new Volvo XC40 Recharge has everything that a customer expects from a Volvo. The vehicle has a range of more than 400 kilometers, an engine power of 408 hp and the battery can be charged up to 80 percent in 40 minutes at a quick charging station. The Volvo XC40 Recharge has also a new infotainment system based on Google's Android operating system, which is fully networked with the “Volvo on Call” – Volvo's digital platform for shared networked services.
Volvo has set itself the goal of bringing a fully electric car to market every year for the next five years. By 2025 half of the vehicles sold worldwide will be electric cars, the other half hybrid vehicles.
“We have said this several times: The future of Volvo is electric. Today we are taking another important step in this direction with the launch of the fully electric Volvo XC40 and the Recharge model line.” – Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo President and CEO
