Road trip with the BMW iX xDrive50

On our road trip from Lake Como in Italy via Switzerland and Austria back to Munich, we had the chance to test the BMW iX xDrive50 on long distance and also in various weather conditions. As said in our former article about the iX, inside you enjoy an absolute feel-good atmosphere. Generous space, a high-quality mix of materials, newly developed seats and the large panoramic glass roof create this luxurious and highly comfortable lounge atmosphere.

The entire ride was very relaxed and stress-free, on top very silent as the iX is a pure electric vehicle. At no time did we have range anxiety as the BMW iX has a range of up to 630 km (according to WLTP). Our way led from Lake Como over the Bernina Pass to Pontresina, a mountain resort on the Bernina Pass in eastern Switzerland. So on our first leg we covered about 160 km. So no problem at all for the iX, you hardly felt the kilometres travelled in the battery. This is also ensured by adaptive recuperation, which is a standard setting in drive mode D. Based on numerous data for example, speed, distance to the vehicle in front and navigation data, the system decides whether it is currently more efficient to sail or to recuperate.

The next day we continued our trip with the BMW iX fully charged back to Munich. The distance was around 320 km.
Scenically, the trip was enormously beautiful. You could hardly get out of the amazement and the good thing is, at all times we have been driving emission-free and silently. The latter highly improved our trip as we were able to listen to our favourite music even more crisp. The Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system created an impressive musical surrounding that we haven’t had in a vehicle before. The 4D audio function using magnet-controlled shakers in the driver and front passenger seats provides you an immersive sound system which we enjoyed to the fullest.

Driving the BMW iX is sheer pleasure. The design is coherent all around and meets our taste. We absolutely enjoyed the road trip and we did not want to get out of the car when being back in Munich. At the end the battery still showed around 35 % and we have driven quite agile. We could have continued our trip to our final destination Berlin easily in the iX as sitting in there is extremely comfortable.
