ellectric meets Volvo Studio Ulm – let's talk about Volvo's way to be a climate-neutral company by 2040

Volvo is distinctly aware that automotive companies have to contribute to the mitigation of climate change. Accordingly, they set themselves ambitious goals. By 2040 Volvo aims to be a climate-neutral company and to operate entirely according to the principles of the circular economy.
On its way there, they are implementing many measures. Because only with a maximum level of sustainability and eco-friendliness, individual mobility will be possible in the future.
One of Volvo’s near step towards its 2040 ambition, is to reduce its lifecycle CO2 footprint per car by 40 per cent by 2025 compared to 2018. The consistent electrification of the model range already reduces the direct vehicle emissions. Thus beginning of this year, Volvo announced that by 2030 every car sold will be fully electric and that all electric cars will be only available online. Already by 2025 so in four years, Volvo’s goal is that every second model sold worldwide will be purely electric with hybrids making up the rest.

With the XC40 Recharge P8 AWD, Volvo presented its first fully electric car. A few months ago, we had the chance to test the XC40 Recharge. Find more information and our review here.

The C40 is Volvo’s latest manifestation of its commitment to a zero emission future. In the coming years, Volvo will roll out further electric models. The C40 is the first model in Volvo’s history being designed as a pure electric vehicle only and it’s also the first one being completely leather-free. Using more and more sustainable and recycled materials is another great measure of Volvo.

Not only the electrification strategy of the vehicles is one step towards reducing CO2 emissions, there are many others that Volvo is taking in order to mitigating climate change. Volvo also wants to reduce CO2 emissions in production, logistics and the entire supply chain in cooperation with its suppliers. They are aiming for climate-neutral production worldwide by 2025. In the same period of time, the CO2 emissions coming from the global supply chain are to be reduced by 25 percent while the share of recycled plastics in new Volvo cars is to increase to 25 percent.

To take the consumer on the journey and to explain and enlarge upon sustainability and the measures on the way to be a climate-neutral company by 2040, Volvo opens its studio in Ulm as part of the Berblinger Fest. Volvo will be there from 2nd to 11th of July. Various talks on the topic of “The Future of Mobility” will take place which will be also broadcasted via an online livestream. Volvo also invited us to take part and to discuss with them the topic of sustainability. On the 8th (5-6 pm) and 9th (2-3 pm) of July we will be at the Volvo Studio in Ulm and be involved in a Q&A session to get to know in depth its strategy and measures towards being a climate-neutral company by 2040.
